Meet The Filmmakers

We asked our filmmakers some questions about them and their work. For further questions, join us at the designated post-screening Q+A!

1. What is your connection to the South?

We (Ryan, Matt, and Tucker) all grew up in South Carolina. Our families lived in different areas of the state, but we all converged in Columbia for university. There’s a surprising amount of creative culture in Cola, and we were all influenced by it.

2. Where did you get your inspiration for this work?

Matt: Yeah, we just wanted to make a music video one weekend, we sat around on the couch throwing concepts around. I think the best ideas come in times of idea desperation with friends haha.

Tucker: An impromptu sketch idea turned into a big sketch-music video combo, then was filed down into a smaller, tighter music video we wound up making. Ryan and Matt put together the song.

3. How did you start making films?

Tucker: My brother and I used to make Lego movies on mom’s camcorder, but true investment in film stemmed going outdoors, backpacking, and wanting to share those experiences with others.

Matt: My parents got me this clunky old tape camera when I was in the 3rd grade. I would spend countless afternoons interviewing my pets and filming short videos with my friends. True works of art.

Ryan: I used my mom’s camera to accidentally tape over priceless family memories so that my friends and I could recreate scenes from movies.

4. Did anything interesting or funny happen on set during the shooting?

Tucker: Ryan attempted to skate down a ramp while blowing bubbles but didn’t lean into the ramp. The skateboard shot out from under him, his hip hit the concrete pretty hard, and the bubble juice splashed all over his face.

Matt: The bubble incident killed me. We also were originally going to use donuts instead of fried chicken, but Dunkin Donuts was closed. KFC was the next best thing.

Ryan: Yeah, the falling off the skateboard and splashing bubbles in my eyes bit sure was funny for those watching.

5. What do you look forward to the most during Indie Grits?

Tucker: What an awesome convergence for alt right filmmakers!

Matt: Looking forward to gathering to watch great artistic content and owning the libs.

Ryan: Throwin’ a few brewskies back while watching some flicks with the lads.

6. Why should someone see your film?

Tucker: It’s quick, it’s silly, and it’ll take you on a lil’ rollercoaster.

Matt: Because life is too short to watch short films that people poured real emotion into.

Ryan: It could help bring people to a more profound and personal understanding of themselves.
