We’re no strangers to talent here at Indie Grits. Each year, we bring on the best and the brightest in the filmmaking world to adjudicate our festival selections. We’re excited to welcome our three jurors, who hail from across the Southeast and beyond, and are here to help us celebrate this year’s crop of moviemaking talent.
Kelly Gallagher is an experimental filmmaker, animator, and Assistant Professor of Media Arts at Antioch College. Her theoretical and scholarly work investigates the radical and feminist possibilities of experimental animation. Her animations, experimental films and documentaries have screened internationally at venues including: The National Gallery of Art, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Anthology Film Archives, Sheffield Doc/Fest, London ICA Artists’ Biennial, LA Film Forum, and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. She is the recipient of the Ivan Kaljević Award from Alternative Film/Video Festival Belgrade, the Helen Hill Award from Indie Grits, the Audience Award from Brazil’s Fronteira Film Festival, and the Jury’s Choice Award from Black Maria Film Festival.
Originally from North Carolina and currently based in Los Angeles, cinematographer Isiah Donté Lee studied at The University of North Carolina School of the Arts and was a 2016 Film Independent Project Involve Fellow. His debut narrative feature film Burning Sands, premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. He currently spends his time shooting features while doing commercials or music videos in between.
Jolene Pinder is currently the Executive Director of #CreateLouisiana, an organization designed to champion indigenous Louisiana talent and support the entertainment industries that are integral to the region. Prior to this role, she served as the Executive Director of the New Orleans Film Society–the producer of the annual New Orleans Film Festival–for six years. She also worked at Arts Engine in NYC as a documentary film producer and Director of the Media That Matters Film Festival. During this time, she was a member of the inaugural Collaborative Studio at UnionDocs in Brooklyn. Her work has screened at various venues and festivals around the world including Frameline, NewFest, Sarasota, and MoMA.
