Meet The Filmmakers

We asked our filmmakers some questions about them and their work. For further questions, join us at the designated post-screening Q+A!

Patrick Bresnan:

1. What is your connection to the South?

My family moved to Florida in 2000, Ivete my co-director is from Monterrey MX and We have lived in Austin TX since 2008. I am never going back North. Fuck the winter.

2. Where did you get your inspiration for this work?

This film is about people pulling off the road and taking photos. Since I am also a photographer I love that camera phones and social media have inspired so many people get out of their cars and interact with their environment. The photo takers and crowds depicted in the film are really the inspiration. There was a not stop flow of people and that kept us recording all day.

3. How did you start making films?

My family bought a mini VHS Panasonic camcorder in 1990. My wife Ivete had a TV show in college that evolved into a series of short films.

4. Did anything interesting or funny happen on set during the shooting?

I got a ride with a police officer who told me that even though he voted for Trump his girlfriend is muslim so it make for lively conversation at dinner. He also showed me a photo of Air Force One with silver testicles photoshoped hanging from the back of the plane.

5. What do you look forward to the most during Indie Grits?

Seeing all of the incredible students and interns working at the festival. Walking around Columbia and taking photos. Seeing Seth Gadsden’s painting studio.

6. Why should someone see your film?

Because there is probably an interesting film playing before and after it.
